What is PRP?
PRP stands for Platelet-rich Plasma. PRP is a cutting-edge form of regenerative medicine that is widely used for cosmetic therapy. PRP comes from your own blood and is a healthy, natural way to improve the effects of aging.
A small amount of blood is drawn from your arm and then separated into platelets. The blood is then spun in a centrifuge to separate the growth factors, platelets, and stem cells from the rest of the blood. Once this unique mixture is obtained, the enriched plasma is applied to the desired treatment areas via SkinPen Microneedling.
The PRP has the unique ability to rev up collagen and elastin production, which helps repair skin tissues. PRP also improves the healing process and decreases the duration of redness and swelling some may experience.
- Avoid unprotected and excessive sun exposure or tanning several weeks before your appointment.
- Drink a lot of water in the days before your appointment.
- If possible, arrive makeup-free.
The office visit begins with the application of a topical numbing agent. Then, the treatment provider will draw one syringe of blood. The syringe will then be put into a centrifuge and spun so that the PRP can be separated from the red blood cells. Once numb, about 20-30 minutes, we get started. The SkinPen treatment does not hurt and usually takes about 30 minutes. With SkinPen, we go down into the deeper layers of the skin. This helps your body stimulate wound healing, which promotes collagen production.
The treatment provider will begin SkinPen Microneedling while using your PRP. The PRP solution is massaged into the treatment area, during and after Microneedling. The PRP penetrates the skin through the small wounds created by the SkinPen. In the past, PRP has been injected into the skin, but it’s becoming more of a common practice to use it along with Microneedling.
You will leave the office with PRP on your face. It will feel very tight. We ask that you leave the PRP on for at least 4 hours or more if possible. Post-procedure care is extremely important to enhance the benefits and insure the results of your Microneedling with PRP treatment.
