Advanced Collagen Induction Therapy With SkinPen® in Lakeway, TX
Many skin concerns are due to a lack of collagen. Two examples we frequently see in our practice are wrinkles and acne scars, both of which can be treated with collagen induction therapy.
Collagen is a structural protein responsible for keeping your skin strong, even and firm. Unfortunately, its production declines as you grow older, leading to wrinkles and sagging skin. Some types of acne scars are also characterized by reduced collagen levels. At Wink Medical Aesthetics, we want you to feel good about your skin. That’s why we offer advanced microneedling using SkinPen® for an efficient treatment with no downtime.
Microneedling with SkinPen® boosts collagen levels without heat or chemicals. With it, we can treat different skin concerns even in hard-to-reach areas such as around the nose, eyes and mouth. We also offer an exosomes add-on to increase collagen production and achieve even better results.
Microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that uses tiny needles to stimulate collagen production. We usually use it for fine lines, moderate wrinkles and acne scars. But it can also help correct a wide range of other skin issues, such as enlarged pores.
The FDA has approved several devices for microneedling, the first being SkinPen®. This tried and true medical-grade microneedling device is available through skincare professionals only. The device is clinically proven to reduce the appearance of neck wrinkles and acne scars.
SkinPen® consists of a pen-shaped handpiece and needle cartridge. The cartridge contains high-quality needles for maximum precision. The cartridges are single use, and the skin pen is wrapped in a disposable protective sleeve with every use to ensure maximum safety.
We now offer an enhancement to our SkinPen® microneedling treatment — exosomes. Exosomes are tiny vesicles released by cells that facilitate communication and healing. They send signals to kickstart the repair and regeneration process. When we add exosomes to your microneedling procedure, it amplifies your skin’s natural healing response.
The combined microneedling-exosomes procedure produces longer-lasting, synergistic rejuvenation results. Clients can achieve improvements in fine lines, scars, tone and texture that surpass standalone microneedling treatments.
Pricking the skin with needles to make it look youthful may sound strange, but it works. Microneedling works similarly to other non-surgical rejuvenation procedures: causing micro-injury to the skin to trigger collagen production.
When the skin is punctured with microneedles, this initially leads to an inflammatory response to jumpstart the healing process. Next, cells that include collagen begin to proliferate in and around the puncture site. And finally, new skin begins to form that contains a greater number of collagen and elastin fibers.
The needles used for microneedling range in length from 0.5 mm to 3.5 mm. That’s because skin is of different thickness at different sites. But it’s also because different skin concerns require different depths of penetration.
When we upgrade the microneedling procedure with exosomes, we apply a high-quality exosome serum across the treatment area. The concentrated growth factors and proteins found in the exosomes penetrate deeply into the skin through the micro-channels created by microneedling.
While microneedling does require injuring the skin, the procedure is nearly painless and requires no downtime. Clients usually need at least three sessions, spaced 30 days apart, to improve the appearance of wrinkles. For scar reduction, six sessions may be necessary. Once your treatment is complete, you can expect to see your results within six weeks and enjoy them for at least six months.
There are countless rejuvenation procedures out there, but not many offer the long list of benefits of microneedling:

When performed properly, microneedling is safe. We use sterile, single-use equipment during this procedure to prevent infections. We also check your and your skin’s health before performing this procedure to maximize safety.
You want to make sure your skin is calm and infection-free before your treatment. We recommend avoiding sun exposure, harsh exfoliants, chemical peels and electrolysis for two weeks before treatment.
Microneedling requires no active downtime, but you will want to avoid sun exposure and harsh products for up to a week post-treatment. Your skin may be mildly red and tender in the days following treatment, so make sure to use gentle cleansers and other products.
Microneedling costs less than most other procedures. The costs depend on the size of the treatment area and the number of sessions required. We will provide you with the total cost of your treatment during your initial consultation.
Yes! Compared to treatments that use heat or harsh chemicals, microneedling causes less dramatic injury to the skin, which is not likely to lead to post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and prominent scarring for dark skin types.
Exosomes are tiny messengers naturally released by our cells that facilitate cellular communication. They play a critical role in tissue regeneration and repair by transporting growth factors, proteins and genetic materials. When applied topically and combined with microneedling, they deliver repair instructions deep into the skin to boost collagen production, accelerate healing and reduce inflammation.
Exosomes enhance microneedling by promoting faster and more effective healing and rejuvenation of the skin. They do so by delivering a concentrated dose of growth factors, proteins and other regenerative materials directly to the treated area through the micro-channels. This not only accelerates the skin’s natural healing processes but also boosts the production of collagen and elastin, leading to more significant and longer-lasting results. When combined, these two therapies deliver results beyond what either treatment can achieve alone.
Exosomes and PRP (platelet-rich plasma) are both paired with microneedling to promote skin rejuvenation. While PRP is derived from the patient’s own blood (and therefore requires a blood draw), exosomes come from a lab to ensure consistency and quality. Exosomes are a newer option that show promise as a more targeted and effective approach to skin rejuvenation.
