How Does JUVÉDERM® Work?

JUVÉDERM® works by replacing the skin’s lost volume or adding volume where it lacks.

The main ingredient responsible for this action is a synthetic form of hyaluronic acid (HA). HA is a substance naturally produced by your body. The highest concentrations are found in soft connective tissues and eye fluid. One characteristic of HA is that it can hold 1,000 times its weight in water, in this way providing structure and support to tissues.

As we age, our skin produces less collagen but also less HA. This contributes to the formation of wrinkles, skin sagging and a hollowed appearance. By injecting HA below the skin, we can restore some of this lost volume for a plump and youthful appearance.

This particular filler is intended to address mid-face volume loss and a lack of definition in the jawline and chin. More specifically, JUVÉDERM® VOLUMA® XC can add volume and lift to the cheeks and correct a sagging or weak jawline. The product is thick in consistency compared to other fillers from this line, which is why it is so great for adding definition and lift in the mid-face. Its thick consistency also makes it the longest-lasting of the JUVÉDERM® fillers, with many patients enjoying their results for two years or even longer.

JUVÉDERM® Vollure® XC

For moderate to severe wrinkles and folds around the nose and mouth, this filler is best. Loss of collagen, as well as bone volume in the mid-face, can lead to deep wrinkles around the nose to the corners of the mouth known as nasolabial folds. The best way to correct this is by adding that lost volume. JUVÉDERM® VOLLURE® XC with its cross-linked HA of different molecular weights has enough strength to support these structures and versatility to address both superficial and deep wrinkles. Another bonus is that it lasts up to 18 months, making it a worthwhile investment.

JUVÉDERM® Volbella® XC

For thin lips, we usually use JUVÉDERM® VOLBELLA® XC. It has a very lightweight texture that makes it suitable for the lip area, especially if you want to achieve natural-looking results. The lips also feel soft, and there is little to no change in sensation. The product is injected using very thin needles, unlike other JUVÉDERM® fillers that require either a cannula or standard needles. The product is also a great option for smoker’s lines and dark under-eyes caused by thinning skin.

JUVÉDERM® Ultra® XC

This product is also designed for the lip area. For patients who want big lips or with very thin lips, this product is able to add lots of volume, support and structure. It can also help treat wrinkles around the lip and nose area. The product is more cohesive than JUVÉDERM® VOLBELLA® XC, but both products can last up to a year.

JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC

JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus XC is much thicker than its sister filler. This makes it ideal for deep wrinkles and folds, like nasolabial folds and smile lines. The product can also be used on the lips to add fullness or create a more balanced shape. The effects last up to a year, like with most dermal fillers in this line.
